Meet the Team: The Heart Behind VOSH North Carolina
Dr. Kara Foster, President
Dr. Kara Foster is a graduate of the New England College of Optometry and founder of EyeCare for You in Apex, NC. Her independent practice was built on the belief that patient care should never be dictated by insurance.
Kara’s passion for service began with a volunteer trip to Haiti and deepened through mission work in Guatemala, where she and Laura Americo provided care in rural Jalpatagua. Inspired to expand their efforts, they began to lead VOSH-NC in 2023.
As president, Kara leads international trips, performs comprehensive eye exams, and manages optometric equipment and supplies. At home, she’s an advocate for healthcare access and community development in Holly Springs, where she lives with her husband Kevin and their three daughters.

Laura Americo, Vice President
A certified optician and office manager at EyeCare for You since 2018, Laura Americo brings decades of optical experience and a deep heart for service. Inspired by her father, a retired optician, she entered the field in high school and never looked back.
Her first mission trip to Guatemala sparked a connection with the community of Jalpatagua and a personal commitment to serve. As vice president of VOSH-NC, Laura coordinates volunteer trips, partners with local nonprofits, and leads the optical department—dispensing eyewear and managing inventory.
Originally from Florida, she now lives in Fuquay-Varina with her husband and beloved rescue dogs. Her greatest joy is time spent spoiling her niece and nephews.
Kevin Foster, Treasurer
Kevin Foster is a North Carolina native, NC State graduate, and enthusiastic volunteer. After joining a 2023 mission trip to Guatemala, he quickly became an integral part of VOSH-NC’s operations and long-term vision.
As treasurer, Kevin manages finances, donations, and equipment expenses. On every trip, he’s the reliable “fixer,” always ready to troubleshoot and support the team.
At home, he enjoys life with Kara and their daughters, lakeside weekends, and cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Dr. Amorette Hanna, Secretary
Dr. Amorette Hanna is a University of Florida alum and graduate of Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry. With a focus on pediatric care and myopia management, she brings both clinical skill and heartfelt dedication to VOSH-NC.
Since joining in 2024, Amorette has volunteered locally and internationally, helping expand access to eye care for underserved populations. In her free time, she shares her love of baking and optometry on her blog Eyeicing on the Cake.
